Former military strongholds are not necessarily the worst building sites. They are elevated, dominate the landscape and provide a huge panoramic view. Sometimes they are covered with trees, providing shade to the barracks. A lot of Israeli land now under military administration was populated by British garrisons during the Mandate. Before them, the Ottoman Army camped there. Palmach Museum was built on a part of such terrain used for military purposes even today. It was built in Ramat Aviv, on the north city limits of Tel Aviv.
